Regional Sales Manager

National Leadership Opportunity / Orthopaedics/ Medical Devices

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced, high-performing sales professional to step into a national leadership role within a highly regarded global medical technology company.

This is an exceptional opportunity for either an established Regional Sales Manager or a standout Senior Territory Manager ready to take the next step into leadership.

The successful person will lead a national orthopaedics sales team across New Zealand, with responsibility for commercial performance, team development, customer engagement and business growth.

The Role

You will lead and develop a geographically dispersed sales team of approximately 10 people across New Zealand, comprising Territory Managers and Associate Territory Managers.

Working closely with senior leadership, specialist clinical teams and other business units, you will be responsible for driving performance and building a highly engaged, accountable and successful team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, coaching and developing the national sales team
  • Driving sales performance, growth and market share
  • Setting clear expectations and creating accountability
  • Developing and executing sales and territory strategies
  • Supporting complex commercial and customer opportunities
  • Building strong relationships with orthopaedic surgeons and hospital stakeholders
  • Working collaboratively across different business units
  • Influencing internal stakeholders and gaining buy-in
  • Creating alignment across teams and functions
  • Forecasting, account planning and monitoring performance
  • Identifying new opportunities for growth across New Zealand
  • Working closely with specialist clinical and robotic technology teams

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will be expected to remain close to your team and customers and be prepared to roll up your sleeves and support where required.

Approximately 30% national travel should be expected.

About You

First and foremost, you will have a strong and consistent record of sales success.

You may already be managing a team, or you may be an exceptional Territory Manager or senior sales professional ready to step into leadership.

Formal people-management experience is not essential.

What is important is that you can demonstrate genuine leadership capability, commercial credibility and the ability to influence others.

Ideally, you will bring experience from one of the following areas:

  • Orthopaedic or medical device sales
  • Pharmaceutical sales
  • Senior healthcare sales
  • Physiotherapy with strong commercial experience
  • Biomedical or technically focused healthcare roles

You will need to understand the orthopaedic environment and be credible working with surgeons, theatre teams and hospital stakeholders.

Experience within the New Zealand hospital market will be highly regarded.

Leadership Style

We are looking for someone who genuinely inspires others.

You will be:

  • Commercially strong and results driven
  • Empathetic, approachable and people focused
  • Able to engage and motivate different personalities
  • Comfortable setting clear expectations and driving accountability
  • Someone who earns trust and respect
  • Confident influencing people outside your direct reporting line
  • Able to bring teams together around common goals
  • Comfortable operating in a complex business environment
  • Prepared to muck in and support the team when required
  • Someone who genuinely cares about their people, customers and outcomes

You will have natural leadership presence and the ability to bring people with you.

This is not simply a role for someone looking for their next title. We are looking for someone who genuinely wants to build a team, develop people and grow a successful business.

Technical Capability

This is a technically complex portfolio, so you will need to be intellectually curious, commercially minded and able to learn quickly.

You do not need to already know the company's product portfolio in depth, as comprehensive product training and support will be provided.

What matters is your ability to understand complex products and clinical concepts quickly and confidently.

Location

This is a national New Zealand role and can be based in:

  • Auckland
  • Wellington
  • Christchurch

National travel will be required.

Remuneration
An excellent package is available for the right person, including:
  • Base salary of approximately $150,000–$180,000 depending on experience
  • Additional performance incentive / commission
  • $23,000 car allowance
  • Fuel card
  • Family medical insurance
  • Life insurance
  • 8% superannuation

Eligibility

Applicants must currently be based in New Zealand and already hold appropriate New Zealand work rights.

You must also be able to demonstrate the relevant commercial sales experience, leadership capability and understanding of the orthopaedic environment outlined above.

Please do not apply if you do not meet these essential criteria. Due to the volume of applications, we are only able to respond to candidates whose experience and background closely match the requirements of the role.
