Senior Biomedical Engineer – Medical Devices

5–10 Years' Relevant Experience Required

About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Biomedical Engineer to join a globally respected medical technology organisation supporting customers throughout New Zealand.

This is a hands-on senior position responsible for the end-to-end service and operational delivery of biomedical equipment, including oversight of the NZ workshop, complex technical repairs and maintenance, equipment installations, asset management and service documentation.

Just as importantly, we are looking for someone who is personable, collaborative and comfortable working with people. You will be part of a wider Sales, Clinical and Technical team and will regularly interact with customers in hospital environments. Strong technical capability is essential, but so too is the ability to communicate well, build relationships and contribute positively to a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day NZ workshop and service operations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and complex equipment repairs.
  • Install, service and support capital medical equipment.
  • Conduct electrical safety and performance testing.
  • Manage software updates, integrations and technical troubleshooting.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders and QMS documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant NZ medical device, quality and safety standards.
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal Sales and Clinical teams.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Please only apply if you meet ALL of the following essential criteria:

  • Degree or diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 5–10 years' experience in field biomedical engineering or a medical device service role.
  • Proven experience installing, maintaining and servicing capital medical equipment.
  • EWRB registration as an EST/Electrician with MCPA endorsement, or willingness and ability to obtain this.
  • Experience working independently and managing a field/service workload with minimal supervision.
  • Strong service documentation and work-order management experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a wider commercial and clinical team.
  • A confident, professional and customer-focused manner when working within hospitals and customer sites.
  • Full, current New Zealand driver's licence.
  • New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, currently residing in New Zealand, with unrestricted permanent work rights.

Exposure to laser equipment, particularly testing and validation, would be advantageous.

The Person

You will be technically capable and process-driven, but not someone who works in isolation. We are looking for a collaborative engineer who enjoys being part of a team, communicates openly, can relate comfortably to a range of people and understands that excellent service is as much about the customer experience as it is about the technical solution.

What's in It for You?
  • Competitive salary and bonus package.
  • Car allowance and fuel card.
  • Health and income protection insurance after six months.
  • Birthday leave and volunteer leave.
  • Career development within an established international medical technology organisation.
Important – Please Read Before Applying

This is not a graduate or junior Biomedical Engineering position.

Applicants must have the required 5–10 years' relevant experience and meet all essential qualification and experience criteria above.

We are unable to consider candidates who are overseas, hold temporary New Zealand work visas, require employer sponsorship, or do not meet the essential experience requirements.

Due to the volume of applications received for Biomedical Engineering positions, only applicants meeting all essential criteria will receive a response.
Please send your cover letter and CV to wendy@synergyconsult.co.nz.
